Eiffel is best known for the famous Parisian landmark, the Eiffel Tower, which was the centrepiece for the 1889 Exposition Universelle and took two years to construct. It was the world’s tallest structure on its completion. The Eiffel Tower was originally held together by nuts and bolts, which were replaced by rivets as construction progressed.
